Benefits of Becoming a CCPCP Member
New Benefits for Full Members:
Candidates for Advanced Counselling Practitioner are Full Members in Good Standing with the CCPCP. They are qualified members with specialized competency-based training and supervised experience. The designation ACP informs clients, colleagues, and the public that in addition to any designations granted by your association, the practitioner has also earned professional recognition from a regulatory college.

CCPCP has broadened the levels of membership to include Student members and Candidate members who wish to join the roster of experienced full members. Full members have completed specialized training in mental health; a minimum of 2 years supervised clinical experience, and demonstrate core competencies required for the practice of mental health services.
Candidates for full membership have completed an accredited training program that includes competencies required for practice as a mental health practitioner, and are currently working under clinical supervision in a mental health related position.
Student membership is available for students currently enrolled in an accredited institution that offers courses in the core competencies necessary for practice as a mental health practitioner. Student Membership is part of the natural progression towards supervision, competency development, and professional practice.
Tax Deductible Benefit
Payments made can be used as part of an income tax deduction. Please consult with your accountant on this process.
Liability Insurance
Liability Insurance will be offered to qualified members of the CCPCP through AON’s Canadian Counsellors Liability Insurance Program: Canadian Counselors Liability Insurance Program | Aon. Members can download the fillable PDF application from a link on the right side of the page, fill it out and email it to AON at aha@aon.ca. Once reviewed by the team and approved, coverage begins right away or when specified on the application.
Category B
- Canadian counsellors, who have educational level other than Masters degree or PhD
- Students completing an Masters degree and working under supervision
- All other counsellors and career development practitioners
Professional liability coverage includes
- Disciplinary action defence costs – $100,000 per claim / $200,000 aggregate
- Criminal defence reimbursement – $150,000 per claim / $150,000 aggregate
- Loss of earnings due to trial – $750/day
- Sexual abuse therapy fund – $25,000 each claim
- Sexual abuse coverage – $1,000,000 each claim and in the aggregate
- Security and privacy liability – $50,000 sublimit
Additional options
Professional liability for your legal entity:
- Provides coverage if your registered business or company is named in a lawsuit
- Limits are shared between you and your legal entity
- All professional employees are required to secure individual professional liability coverage
- Legal entity coverage must be purchased in conjunction with either professional liability or professional liability/commercial general liability option
